Proposal of a Simplified Tool for Early Acoustics Design Stage of Classrooms in Compliance with Speech Intelligibility Thresholds

The speech intelligibility properties of classrooms greatly influence the learning process students. Proper acoustics can promote inclusion foreign students and children with or hearing impairments. While awareness topic is increasing, there still no parameter that describe all aspects transmission inside a room. This complicates design requires designers to have extensive knowledge theory experience. In scientific technical literature, lack predictive tools, easy use by designers, which guide choices in early stages order move towards solutions able ensure adequate levels intelligibility. For this reason, paper, most relevant parameters found literature were collected discussed. Among these, Clarity index Speech Transmission Index singled out as effective ones, whose prediction be made relatively simple methods. They then analyzed through their formulas, tool was proposed allow an estimation minimum total equivalent sound absorption area needed classroom. simplifies stage, allowing within classroom increased without requiring much theoretical effort on part designers.
